Laclede County, located in the beautiful Ozark Mountains, was established in 1849. Carved from portions of Camden, Pulaski, and Wright counties, it was named in honor of Pierre Laclede, the founder of St. Louis. The county’s diverse landscape features everything from rolling farmlands and pastures to rugged, forested hills. Positioned approximately 155 miles southwest of St. Louis via I-44, it is a key part of the 24 counties that make up Southwest Missouri. The land was originally home to Wyota, an old Osage village that was abandoned by Native Americans as settlers moved into the area. Laclede County borders Webster and Wright counties to the south, Dallas County to the west, Camden County to the north, and Pulaski and Texas counties to the east. For more info about Laclede County, please check About and History under Resources.
